Global Gathering for HSL
Leading UK lighting and visuals rental company HSL continued its busy summer supplying lighting equipment, LED screens, trussing and rigging for the Main Stage and five tented arenas at the 2012 Global Gathering event, staged at Long Marston Airfield near Stratford ….. attracting up to 50,000 dance music fans over two days.
HSL’s Tim Fawkes project managed the event and co-ordinated the supply of seven trucks worth of equipment to event production lighting designers Nick Jevons and Phil Windward of Electric Fly, also working closely with their lighting crew chief Mark Callaghan.
The main stage headliners were Tinie Tempah (Friday) and Chase & Status (Saturday). They and a host of other top international DJs and live acts – including Armin van Buren, Skrillex, Dot Rotten, James Zabiela, Ferry Corsten and hundreds more – set the fabulous Warwickshire countryside buzzing with the very best dance vibes,.
Even the sun participated in the fun .. delighting everyone with a fantastic performance over the two days – one of the few UK festivals this summer not to be plagued by erratic weather. The good weather prompted a run on the last remaining tickets the week before.

HSL Goes Global Again
Leading UK lighting rental company HSL supplied site wide equipment for the main stage, 5 indoor arenas and 2 outdoor terraces at the 2009 Global Gathering dance extravaganza, staged at Long Marsden Airfield in Warwickshire.
Once again, HSL was working for Electric Fly Productions, whose Nick Jevons and Phil Winward created the lighting and show design for all these areas, working for promoters Angel Music. Mike Oates managed the project – which utilised over 200 Robe moving lights and 130 strobes – with Tim Fawkes representing the Blackburn based company on site. He worked alongside Electric Fly’s hand-picked crew of 14 lighting technicians/operators, and 8 riggers.
“The package and service from HSL was amazing as usual,” says Jevons, “All the kit was in great condition and they did everything possible in a great value deal that really enhanced our creative options”.

HSL & Electric Fly in Massive Beck’s Fusion Festival
Award winning Blackburn based lighting rental specialist HSL supplied designer Nick Jevons of Electric Fly Productions with lighting and rigging equipment for the main stage and for site-wide architectural highlighting at the 2008 Beck’s Fusion Festival. This was held at Castlefield’s Arena inManchester.
HSL and Electric Fly also recently collaborated to supply all production lighting and design for the 2008 Global Gathering dance festival, and Jevons states, “HSL is always my first choice for lighting rentals. Mike Oates (HSL’s project manager) and his team have been fantastic – as always – in providing great service and excellent kit”. The highlight of the 2 day music and arts event was a spectacular performance from Massive Attack and United Visual Artists (UVA) – the last show of a summer tour that HSL has also been supplying with lighting equipment. HSL New Screens The Stars at Global Gathering 2011
Leading UK lighting rental company HSL has just taken delivery of 150 square metres of Martin Professional’s latest lightweight EC20 20 mm pitch LED screen plus 48 panels of their popular LC2140 40 mm pitch surface in a major investment with the Danish manufacturer that also included substantial quantities of MAC moving lights, in total, worth close to £3 million.
Most of HSL’s new screen went straight into action at the 2011 Global Gathering dance festival, staged last weekend at long Marston Airfield, near Stratford on Avon, UK. HSL supplied screen surfaces to the main stage and the Wax:On/Hospitality Arena, together with lighting for the main stage and five tented arenas plus the Terrace, once again working with lighting and video designers, Electric Fly.
HSL’s Mike Oates explains that they have invested in the screen to satisfy the increasing demands of lighting designers who often now include scenic and visual design elements like screen surfaces and video into their creations. “I know we’ve all been talking about ‘convergence’ for some time,” states Oates, “But now the circumstances, the products, the budgets and the workable ideas are really in place for screens to become More >
